Applications are invited from eligible Candidates for the eighteenth State Eligibility Test ( SET) for the posts of Assistant Professors and Librarians in Universities and Colleges of West Bengal in the following Subjects: English(01), Bengali(02), Sanskrit(03), Hindi(04), Urdu(05), Commerce(06), Economics(07), History(08), Philosophy(09), Political Science(10), Education(11), Chemical Sciences(12), Geography(13), Life Sciences(14), Mathematical Sciences(15), Physical Sciences(16), Sociology(17), Psychology(18), Library & Information Science(19), Physical Education(20), Electronic Science(21), Computer Science and Applications(22) and Home Science(23)
Eligibility: Master’s Degree in a relevant subject with at least 55% Marks (50% Marks in respect of SC/ST/PH/VH Candidates) or an equivalent grade preceded by at least a Second Class 3-year Bachelor’s degree from an Indian University /institution recognized by UGC or an equivalent degree from a Foreign University. Candidates pursuing Post Graduate courses are also eligible to appear at SET subject to the condition that they must obtain their Post Graduate degree with 55% or 50% marks, whichever is applicable, within two years from the date of holding of the SET.
Notes :
1. Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation.
2. The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th
September, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in SET.
3. For Persons with Disability (Visually Challenged candidates) thirty minutes’ extra time shall be provided separately for paper-I and Paper-II. For paper-III, forty five minutes’ extra time shall be provided. They will also be provided the services of a scribe who would be a graduate in a subject other than that in which the candidate is appearing in SET. Those Persons with Disability (Physically Challenged candidates) who are not in a position to write in their own hand can also avail of these services. All such candidates who are willing and eligible to take the assistance of a scribe must make a prior request (at least three weeks before the date of SET Examination) in writing to the Member Secretary, SET. Extra time and facility of scribe would not be provided to other Persons with Disability (Physically Challenged)candidates.
There is no upper age limit for appearing at the SET. However, for the purpose of recruitment, the relevant Government Order will be applicable.
Note: The minimum marks of 55% or 50%, as the case may be, must not involve any rounding off procedure.
Application: Candidates have to visit our web portal www.examinationonline.in/wbcscportal and apply online. On-line Application facility along with the necessary Information will be available from the above-mentioned portal from 18th September, 2014,12 noon. The last date of submission of Online Application Form is 11th October, 2014,6 PM. Candidates need not submit any hard copy of their application form, but they should retain a copy for future reference.Incomplete Application Forms are liable to be cancelled without any refund of Application Fees. It may be noted that the on-line Admit Cards will be available two weeks ahead of the date of examination.
Fees: Rs. 700/-(plusRs. 40/- as Bank Charge) for General candidates or Rs. 350/- ( plusRs. 40/- as Bank Charge) for SC/ST/OBC/PH/VH Candidates. The Fee is to be deposited at any Branch of the United Bank of India. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
Date of Examination: The Test will be held on Sunday 14.12.2014 and the Test Centres are likely to be at Kolkata, South 24 Pgs (Diamond Harbour), Howrah, North 24 Pgs, Krishnanagar, Burdwan, Rampurhat, Purba Medinipore, Paschim Medinipore, Baharampur, Purulia, Malda, Siliguri, and Coochbehar The Centres may be changed at the discretion of the Commission. However, the candidates are not allowed to change their option for Test Centre of their own.
General Notes:
1. Any legal dispute pertaining to the SET shall be within the jurisdiction of High Court at Kolkata only.
2. In order to avoid last minute rush, candidates are advised to apply well before the last date.
WBCSC will not be responsible for network problems or any other problem of this nature.
3. The candidates are requested to retain a copy of the Application Form and other documents for their own record and for future use (by the Commission) should they qualify in the examination.
4. The qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor and Librarian only in the Universities/Colleges of West Bengal as per UGC Guide lines.
5.(i) For Mathematical Sciences, candidates having Master’s degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics
or Statistics are eligible.
(ii) For Life Sciences, candidates having Master’s Degree in Botany, Zoology, Microbiology,
Molecular Biology, Bio-Chemistry, Biotechnology, Physiology and other related subjects are
eligible.
(iii) For Library Science, candidates having M.Lib./M.LIS. Degree are eligible.
(iv) For Physical Education, candidates having B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. are eligible.
6. Before submitting the application, candidates are advised to satisfy themselves that they fulfill all the eligibility conditions laid down for appearing at the SET to avoid rejection of their
application. WBCSC has the right to cancel any application of a Candidate whenever it is
detected that he has failed to fulfill the eligibility criteria or the application procedure.
7. The ADMIT CARD generated on-line with photograph will be Provisional.
8. There will beno negative marking for any paper .
SCHEME OF EXAMINATION :
i) The Test will consist of three papers. All the three papers will consist of
only objective type questions and will be held in two separate sessions
as under:

Paper-I shall be of general nature, intended to assess the
teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed
to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general
awareness of the candidate. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two
marks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required
to answer any fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting more
than fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate
would be evaluated.
Paper-II shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions based on
the subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
Paper-III will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the
subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
All questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering the
entire syllabus (including all electives, without options) for the subject
concerned.
The candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I,
Paper-II and Paper-III on the OMR sheet provided along with the Test
Booklet.
PROCEDURE & CRITERIA FOR DECLARATION OF RESULT:
This will comprise three steps:
Step I: Minimum marks to be obtained in SET for considering a candidate
for eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor and Librarian.
The candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks
separately in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III as given below:

Step II: Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list
will be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate
marks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.
Step III: Top 15% candidates (for each subject and category), from the
merit list mentioned under step II, will be declared SET qualified for
eligibility for the posts of Assistant Professors and Librarian.
ii) Syllabus of Test:
All questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering the
entire syllabus (including all electives, without options). Syllabi for all SET
subjects can be downloaded from the WBCSC Website www.wbcsc.ac.in
or www.examinationonline.in/wbcscportal and are at par with the
relevant NET syllabus. WBCSC will not send the syllabus to individual
candidates.

HOW TO APPLY

(Candidates should apply only onlinethrough www.examinationonline.in/wbcscportal)
From 12 noon, 18.09.2014

1. Before applying, please be ready with scanned images of your photograph and
signature ( see the instruction on photo/signature upload)
2. A valid e-mail ID and Mobile Number are mandatory for registration and email ID should
be kept active at least till the examination process is over. You are advised to read
“ Advertisement” and “How To Apply” carefully and then fill the online application form
with utmost care as no correspondence regarding changes/modifications will be
entertained later.
3. You are first required to visit the above-mentioned website and Click “ Apply for SET. ”
This will redirect you to a page where following information are available:
a. Advertisement
b. How To Apply
c. Important dates
After going through above information, please click on “Click here to apply Online”
4. The main page shows each step to be followed. Perform the steps one by one to
complete your online registration process. It’s a sequential process where the next step
will only get activated after successful completion of the previous step. Therefore,
please complete each step carefully and validate your candidature.
5. Please enter your details in the correct place and while entering data please follow the
sequence of the registration form to get better output.
6. Once the form is filled up, please save your details by clicking “Save Data” and have a
look at the ‘Preview’. If the details entered by you are correct, click on “ Submit”.
7. Otherwise click on “Edit” to modify your details and perform the action as mentioned in
point 8.
8. Once you click on “Submit” (this submission explicitly indicates that no further
changes/modification will be allowed), the system will save the data and register you.
You will get a Registration No and a Password for you. Please note it for future reference.
The system will also send an email indicating your password. (So, be careful while
entering your email id during filling up online application form)
9. You are now a registered candidate. Please visit our site
www.examinationonline.in/wbcscportal again and login with your registration number
and password to upload your photograph and signature as per the instructions given
below. The online application will be considered as incomplete without the
photograph and signature upload.
10. Mode of Fee Payment: You are now in Step-III. Clicking on ‘Pay Fees (Step-III)’, you will
be directed to a page where two copies of the payment Challan will be displayed. Take a
print-out of the Challans. However, you will have to wait for at least two working days
(after uploading your photo and signature successfully) before the Bank accepts your
payment. Payment will be accepted in any branch of United Bank of Indiain India only
after a lag of at least two working days.
11. Collect the candidate’s copy of the fee payment Challan from the Branch. Please check
that the Challan is properly signed and the necessary details like Branch Name,
Transaction Number and deposit date have been noted in the challan by the Branch
authorities.
12. The payment status of a candidate will be updated within three working days of making
the payment. Please visit your page (using your Registration number and Password
again) to see the payment status. The online application process becomes complete
only after the payment status shows that the requisite fees have been paid. If, even
after five days of making the payment, your page shows a “ Not Paid” status, get in touch
with us at the following mail id wbcscfeedback@gmail.com
13. After completing the online application, candidates should take a print out of the
application form (Step IV in the main page) and RETAIN the printout, but NEED NOT
send any hard copy to the Commission.
14. The certificates/documents in original will be verified only in the case the candidate
qualifies in the examination.
Note 1
 Candidates are advised in their own interest to apply on-line well before the closing date
and not to wait till the last date for depositing the fee to avoid the possibility of linkrelated problems. The WBCSC does not assume any responsibility for the candidates not
being able to submit their applications within the last date on account of the aforesaid
reason or for any other reason beyond the control of the WBCSC.
 In case a candidate does not have a valid personal e-mail ID, they should create a new
one before applying on-line.
 Since certain fields are firm, fixed and cannot be edited, candidates are requested to fill
in the online application form with utmost care as no correspondence regarding change
of details will be entertained. A preview option has been provided which should be
carefully utilized before one finally ‘submits’the application.

Instruction on Photo/Signature Upload
Before applying online a candidate will be required to have a scanned (digital) image of
his/her photograph and signature as per the specifications given below.
(i) Photograph Image:
 Photograph must be a recent passport style colour picture.
 Caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed
but it must not cover your face.
 Dimensions 200 x 230 pixels (preferred)
 Size of file should be less than 20kb.
(ii) Signature Imaging :
 The applicant has to sign on white paper with Black Ink/Ballpoint pen.
 Dimensions 140 x 60 pixels (preferred)
 Size of file should be less than 10kb
Scanning the photograph & signature:
(1) The image file should be JPG or JPEG format. An example file name is:
image01.jpg or image01.jpeg. Image dimensions can be checked by listing the folder
files or moving the mouse over the file image icon.
Candidates using MS Windows/MSOffice can easily obtain photo and signature
in .jpeg format not exceeding 20KB respectively by using MS Paint or MSOffice
Picture Manager. Scanned photograph and signature in any format can be saved
in .jpg format by using ‘Save As’ option in the File menu and size can be reduced
below 20KB (photograph) & 10KB (signature) by using crop and then resize option
(Please see point (i) & (ii) above for the pixel size) in the ‘Image’ menu. Similar
options are available in other photo editors also.
If the file size and format are not as prescribed, an error message will be displayed.
While filling in the Online Application Form the candidate will be provided with a link
to upload his photograph and signature.
Procedure for Uploading the Photograph and Signature :
 There will be two separate browse buttons for uploading Photograph and
Signature.
 Click on the respective buttons “Upload Photograph / Signature”.
 Browse and Select the location where the Scanned Photograph / Signature
file has been saved.
 Select the file by clicking on it.
 Click the ‘Upload Files’ button.
 After the photo and signature are successfully uploaded, click on the ‘Back’
Button. You will go back to the Home page, where the ‘Pay Fees (Step III)’
button is now enabled.
( As already mentioned above, you will then go to the page displaying two copies of
the Challan which you should print and go to a branch of United Bank of Indiato make
the payment.
Note 2:
(1) In case the face in the photograph or signature is unclear the candidate’s
application may be rejected.
(2) Wrong information furnished in the online application may lead to rejection
of your candidature. So, please make good use of the “ PREVIEW” and “EDIT”
options.
