\nApplications are invited from eligible Candidates for the eighteenth State Eligibility Test ( SET) for the\u00a0posts of Assistant Professors and Librarians in Universities and Colleges of West Bengal in the following\u00a0Subjects: English(01), Bengali(02), Sanskrit(03), Hindi(04), Urdu(05), Commerce(06), Economics(07),\u00a0History(08), Philosophy(09), Political Science(10), Education(11), Chemical Sciences(12),\u00a0Geography(13), Life Sciences(14), Mathematical Sciences(15), Physical Sciences(16), Sociology(17),\u00a0Psychology(18), Library & Information Science(19), Physical Education(20), Electronic Science(21),\u00a0Computer Science and Applications(22) and Home Science(23)
\nEligibility:<\/strong> Master\u2019s Degree in a relevant subject with at least 55% Marks (50% Marks in respect of\u00a0SC\/ST\/PH\/VH Candidates) or an equivalent grade preceded by at least a Second Class 3-year Bachelor\u2019s\u00a0degree from an Indian University \/institution recognized by UGC or an equivalent degree from a\u00a0Foreign University. Candidates pursuing Post Graduate courses are also eligible to appear at SET subject\u00a0to the condition that they must obtain their Post Graduate degree with 55% or 50% marks, whichever\u00a0is applicable, within two years from the date of holding of the SET.
\nNotes :<\/strong>
\n1. Candidates are advised to appear in the subject of their post-graduation.
\n2. The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master\u2019s level examination had been completed by 19th
\nSeptember, 1991 (irrespective of date of declaration of result) shall be eligible for a relaxation of\u00a05% in aggregate marks (i.e., from 55% to 50%) for appearing in SET.
\n3. For Persons with Disability (Visually Challenged candidates) thirty minutes\u2019 extra time shall be\u00a0provided separately for paper-I and Paper-II. For paper-III, forty five minutes\u2019 extra time shall be\u00a0provided. They will also be provided the services of a scribe who would be a graduate in a subject\u00a0other than that in which the candidate is appearing in SET. Those Persons with Disability\u00a0(Physically Challenged candidates) who are not in a position to write in their own hand can also\u00a0avail of these services. All such candidates who are willing and eligible to take the assistance of a\u00a0scribe must make a prior request (at least three weeks before the date of SET Examination) in\u00a0writing to the Member Secretary, SET. Extra time and facility of scribe would not be provided to\u00a0other Persons with Disability (Physically Challenged)candidates.
\nThere is no upper age limit for appearing at the SET. However, for the purpose of recruitment, the\u00a0relevant Government Order will be applicable.
\nNote:<\/strong> The minimum marks of 55% or 50%, as the case may be, must not involve any rounding off\u00a0procedure.
\nApplication:<\/strong> Candidates have to visit our web portal www.examinationonline.in\/wbcscportal and\u00a0apply online. On-line Application facility along with the necessary Information will be available from\u00a0the above-mentioned portal from 18th\u00a0September, 2014,12 noon. The last date of submission of Online Application Form is 11th\u00a0October, 2014,6 PM. Candidates need not submit any hard copy of their\u00a0application form, but they should retain a copy for future reference.Incomplete Application Forms\u00a0are liable to be cancelled without any refund of Application Fees.\u00a0It may be noted that the on-line Admit Cards will be available two weeks ahead of the date of\u00a0examination.
\nFees:<\/strong> Rs. 700\/-(plusRs. 40\/- as Bank Charge) for General candidates or Rs. 350\/- ( plusRs. 40\/- as Bank\u00a0Charge) for SC\/ST\/OBC\/PH\/VH Candidates. The Fee is to be deposited at any Branch of the United Bank\u00a0of India. Fees once paid will not be refunded under any circumstances.
\nDate of Examination:<\/strong> The Test will be held on Sunday 14.12.2014<\/strong><\/em> and the Test Centres<\/strong> are likely to be\u00a0at Kolkata, South 24 Pgs (Diamond Harbour), Howrah, North 24 Pgs, Krishnanagar, Burdwan,\u00a0Rampurhat, Purba Medinipore, Paschim Medinipore, Baharampur, Purulia, Malda, Siliguri, and\u00a0Coochbehar The Centres may be changed at the discretion of the Commission. However, the\u00a0candidates are not allowed to change their option for Test Centre of their own.
\nGeneral Notes:<\/strong>
\n1. Any legal dispute pertaining to the SET shall be within the jurisdiction of High Court at Kolkata\u00a0only.
\n2. In order to avoid last minute rush, candidates are advised to apply well before the last date.
\nWBCSC will not be responsible for network problems or any other problem of this nature.
\n3. The candidates are requested to retain a copy of the Application Form and other documents for\u00a0their own record and for future use (by the Commission) should they qualify in the examination.
\n4. The qualified candidates are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor and Librarian\u00a0only in the Universities\/Colleges of West Bengal as per UGC Guide lines.
\n5.(i) For Mathematical Sciences, candidates having Master\u2019s degree in Pure and Applied Mathematics
\nor Statistics are eligible.
\n(ii) For Life Sciences, candidates having Master\u2019s Degree in Botany, Zoology, Microbiology,
\nMolecular Biology, Bio-Chemistry, Biotechnology, Physiology and other related subjects are
\neligible.
\n(iii) For Library Science, candidates having M.Lib.\/M.LIS. Degree are eligible.
\n(iv) For Physical Education, candidates having B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. are eligible.
\n6. Before submitting the application, candidates are advised to satisfy themselves that they fulfill all\u00a0the eligibility conditions laid down for appearing at the SET to avoid rejection of their
\napplication. WBCSC has the right to cancel any application of a Candidate whenever it is
\ndetected that he has failed to fulfill the eligibility criteria or the application procedure.
\n7. The ADMIT CARD generated on-line with photograph will be Provisional.
\n8. There will beno negative marking for any paper .

Paper-I<\/strong> shall be of general nature, intended to assess the
\nteaching\/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed
\nto test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general
\nawareness of the candidate. Sixty (60) multiple choice questions of two
\nmarks each will be given, out of which the candidate would be required
\nto answer any fifty (50). In the event of the candidate attempting more
\nthan fifty questions, the first fifty questions attempted by the candidate
\nwould be evaluated.
\nPaper-II<\/strong> shall consist of 50 objective type compulsory questions based on
\nthe subject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
\nPaper-III<\/strong> will consist of 75 objective type compulsory questions from the
\nsubject selected by the candidate. Each question will carry 2 marks.
\nAll questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering the
\nentire syllabus (including all electives, without options) for the subject
\nconcerned.
\nThe candidate will have to mark the responses for questions of Paper-I,
\nPaper-II and Paper-III on the OMR sheet provided along with the Test
\nBooklet.
\nPROCEDURE & CRITERIA FOR DECLARATION OF RESULT:<\/strong>
\nThis will comprise three steps:
\nStep I:<\/strong> Minimum marks to be obtained in SET for considering a candidate
\nfor eligibility for the post of Assistant Professor and Librarian.
\nThe candidates are required to obtain following minimum marks
\nseparately in Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III as given below:<\/p>\n

Step II:<\/strong> Amongst those candidates who have cleared step I, a merit list
\nwill be prepared subject-wise and category-wise using the aggregate
\nmarks of all the three papers secured by such candidates.
\nStep III:<\/strong> Top 15% candidates (for each subject and category), from the
\nmerit list mentioned under step II, will be declared SET qualified for
\neligibility for the posts of Assistant Professors and Librarian.
\nii) Syllabus of Test:<\/strong>
\nAll questions of Paper-II and Paper-III will be compulsory, covering the
\nentire syllabus (including all electives, without options). Syllabi for all SET
\nsubjects can be downloaded from the WBCSC Website www.wbcsc.ac.in<\/strong><\/em><\/a>
\nor www.examinationonline.in\/wbcscporta<\/strong><\/em>l<\/a> and are at par with the
\nrelevant NET syllabus. WBCSC will not send the syllabus to individual
\ncandidates.

HOW TO APPLY<\/h2>\n

(Candidates should apply only onlinethrough www.examinationonline.in\/wbcscportal)
\nFrom 12 noon, 18.09.2014<\/strong>
\n1. Before applying, please be ready with scanned images of your photograph and
\nsignature ( see the instruction on photo\/signature upload)
\n2. A valid e-mail ID and Mobile Number are mandatory for registration and email ID should
\nbe kept active at least till the examination process is over. You are advised to read
\n\u201c Advertisement\u201d and \u201cHow To Apply\u201d carefully and then fill the online application form
\nwith utmost care as no correspondence regarding changes\/modifications will be
\nentertained later.
\n3. You are first required to visit the above-mentioned website and Click \u201c Apply for SET. \u201d
\nThis will redirect you to a page where following information are available:

\nb. How To Apply
\nc. Important dates
\nAfter going through above information, please click on \u201cClick here to apply Online\u201d
\n4. The main page shows each step to be followed. Perform the steps one by one to
\ncomplete your online registration process. It\u2019s a sequential process where the next step
\nwill only get activated after successful completion of the previous step. Therefore,
\nplease complete each step carefully and validate your candidature.
\n5. Please enter your details in the correct place and while entering data please follow the
\nsequence of the registration form to get better output.
\n6. Once the form is filled up, please save your details by clicking \u201cSave Data\u201d and have a
\nlook at the \u2018Preview\u2019. If the details entered by you are correct, click on \u201c Submit\u201d.
\n7. Otherwise click on \u201cEdit\u201d to modify your details and perform the action as mentioned in
\npoint 8.
\n8. Once you click on \u201cSubmit\u201d (this submission explicitly indicates that no further
\nchanges\/modification will be allowed), the system will save the data and register you.
\nYou will get a Registration No and a Password for you. Please note it for future reference.
\nThe system will also send an email indicating your password. (So, be careful while
\nentering your email id during filling up online application form)
\n9. You are now a registered candidate. Please visit our site
\nwww.examinationonline.in\/wbcscportal again and login with your registration number
\nand password to upload your photograph and signature as per the instructions given
\nbelow. The online application will be considered as incomplete without the
\nphotograph and signature upload.
\n10. Mode of Fee Payment: You are now in Step-III. Clicking on \u2018Pay Fees (Step-III)\u2019, you will
\nbe directed to a page where two copies of the payment Challan will be displayed. Take a
\nprint-out of the Challans. However, you will have to wait for at least two working days
\n(after uploading your photo and signature successfully) before the Bank accepts your
\npayment. Payment will be accepted in any branch of United Bank of Indiain India only
\nafter a lag of at least two working days.
\n11. Collect the candidate\u2019s copy of the fee payment Challan from the Branch. Please check
\nthat the Challan is properly signed and the necessary details like Branch Name,
\nTransaction Number and deposit date have been noted in the challan by the Branch
\nauthorities.
\n12. The payment status of a candidate will be updated within three working days of making
\nthe payment. Please visit your page (using your Registration number and Password
\nagain) to see the payment status. The online application process becomes complete
\nonly after the payment status shows that the requisite fees have been paid. If, even
\nafter five days of making the payment, your page shows a \u201c Not Paid\u201d status, get in touch
\nwith us at the following mail id wbcscfeedback@gmail.com
\n13. After completing the online application, candidates should take a print out of the
\napplication form (Step IV in the main page) and RETAIN the printout, but NEED NOT
\nsend any hard copy to the Commission.
\n14. The certificates\/documents in original will be verified only in the case the candidate
\nqualifies in the examination.
\nNote 1
\n\uf0d8 Candidates are advised in their own interest to apply on-line well before the closing date
\nand not to wait till the last date for depositing the fee to avoid the possibility of linkrelated problems. The WBCSC does not assume any responsibility for the candidates not
\nbeing able to submit their applications within the last date on account of the aforesaid
\nreason or for any other reason beyond the control of the WBCSC.
\n\uf0d8 In case a candidate does not have a valid personal e-mail ID, they should create a new
\none before applying on-line.
\n\uf0d8 Since certain fields are firm, fixed and cannot be edited, candidates are requested to fill
\nin the online application form with utmost care as no correspondence regarding change
\nof details will be entertained. A preview option has been provided which should be
\ncarefully utilized before one finally \u2018submits\u2019the application.

\nInstruction on Photo\/Signature Upload
\nBefore applying online a candidate will be required to have a scanned (digital) image of
\nhis\/her photograph and signature as per the specifications given below.
\n(i) Photograph Image:
\n\uf0b7 Photograph must be a recent passport style colour picture.
\n\uf0b7 Caps, hats and dark glasses are not acceptable. Religious headwear is allowed
\nbut it must not cover your face.
\n\uf0b7 Dimensions 200 x 230 pixels (preferred)
\n\uf0b7 Size of file should be less than 20kb.
\n(ii) Signature Imaging :
\n\uf0b7 The applicant has to sign on white paper with Black Ink\/Ballpoint pen.
\n\uf0b7 Dimensions 140 x 60 pixels (preferred)
\n\uf0b7 Size of file should be less than 10kb
\nScanning the photograph & signature:
\n(1) The image file should be JPG or JPEG format. An example file name is:
\nimage01.jpg or image01.jpeg. Image dimensions can be checked by listing the folder
\nfiles or moving the mouse over the file image icon.
\nCandidates using MS Windows\/MSOffice can easily obtain photo and signature
\nin .jpeg format not exceeding 20KB respectively by using MS Paint or MSOffice
\nPicture Manager. Scanned photograph and signature in any format can be saved
\nin .jpg format by using ‘Save As’ option in the File menu and size can be reduced
\nbelow 20KB (photograph) & 10KB (signature) by using crop and then resize option
\n(Please see point (i) & (ii) above for the pixel size) in the ‘Image’ menu. Similar
\noptions are available in other photo editors also.
\nIf the file size and format are not as prescribed, an error message will be displayed.
\nWhile filling in the Online Application Form the candidate will be provided with a link
\nto upload his photograph and signature.
\nProcedure for Uploading the Photograph and Signature :
\n\uf0b7 There will be two separate browse buttons for uploading Photograph and
\nSignature.
\n\uf0b7 Click on the respective buttons “Upload Photograph \/ Signature”.
\n\uf0b7 Browse and Select the location where the Scanned Photograph \/ Signature
\nfile has been saved.
\n\uf0b7 Select the file by clicking on it.
\n\uf0b7 Click the ‘Upload Files’ button.
\n\uf0b7 After the photo and signature are successfully uploaded, click on the \u2018Back\u2019
\nButton. You will go back to the Home page, where the \u2018Pay Fees (Step III)\u2019
\nbutton is now enabled.
\n( As already mentioned above, you will then go to the page displaying two copies of
\nthe Challan which you should print and go to a branch of United Bank of Indiato make
\nthe payment.
\nNote 2:
\n(1) In case the face in the photograph or signature is unclear the candidate’s
\napplication may be rejected.
